Okinawa illuminated with myriad sparkling lights

One might associate the subtropical island of Okinawa with brilliant summer sunlight and laid-back beach days. However, there are still a number of things to enjoy over the Christmas and New Year’s period — the so-called winter season — in Okinawa. Some of the things that mark the holiday season in Okinawa is the twinkling of lights decorating the entire island. From popular sightseeing spots and resort hotels to the average home, Okinawa is truly transformed into an “island of illumination” during winter, starting around November, and a number of fun and romantic events take place across Okinawa.

This year the Renaissance Okinawa Resort in Onna Village and the Kanucha Resort in Nago City will be the first to kick off the holiday celebrations with spectacular nighttime lighting starting Nov. 1, earlier than any other places on the island. Why not enjoy amazing Christmas lights and a magical holiday atmosphere before anybody else?

Stardust Fantasia: ‘Love Miracle Illuminations’

The Kanucha Resort, one of the largest resorts in the prefecture, will be lit up with over 1 million sparkling lights, creating a very romantic ambience for three-and-a-half months this winter following the official lighting ceremony on Nov. 1.

During the event, visitors can enjoy beautiful illuminations all around them as soon as they enter the hotel premises. Beyond the reception area the star-studded “Hoshi no Ongakutai” illumination welcomes guests. The poolside garden serves as the centerpiece for the illuminations and is lit up by the “Mother Tree,” the “Open Heart,” the “Clock Tower” and the “Pier of the Stars.” Viewing the illuminations from the bar on the second floor or from the poolside restaurant is sure to provide that exciting holiday feeling.

Recommended for anniversaries and other celebrations is the personal turning on of the lights at sunset (30,000 yen, advance reservations required). Only one couple has this opportunity each day. Why not enjoy a memorable evening by switching on the 1 million lights of the Kanucha Resort’s illuminations?
