Trick Art Exhibition

An Imaginary Journey
By Caleb Clark

Have you ever dreamed of running with the dinosaurs from “Jurassic Park” or outsmarting a giant like Jack from “Jack and the Beanstalk?” Of course you have. So let your imagination run wild at the interactive Trick Art Exhibit at the Ashibinaa Outlet Mall (Hall 2F) in Itoman. The show runs until Feb.16, from 11:00 to 19:30 for only 600 yen per person and will give you the experience of a lifetime as you interact with custom-made, three-dimensional art designed to trick the human eye.

When you first enter, you are immediately forced to walk across a plank spanning an endless pit, reminiscent of the leap of faith walk at the end of “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” Watch out because it’s a long fall to the bottom, with no way out, or so you will be fooled into believing. After safely making it across you are met by Prince Charming’s men looking for the woman who fits the glass slipper. Try it on, ladies; you may be the next Mrs. Charming.

After moving past the Venus exhibit, where you can pose as you take a sip from her water jug, you will enter the Arctic world of the North Pole to swim with the polar bears. Then head south, where the penguins will teach you to fish with ease as they perform tricks. Once you get tired of playing with the penguins, take the staircase to a magical world, teeming with giant fluttering butterflies. But be careful: There is a sleeping giant around the corner who despises butterflies and being disturbed by humans. Wake him, and he will snatch and gobble you up. When you’re free, find shelter in the little big room, a room that makes the tall look small and small, tall. There you can hide and joke around with a clownfish. Take notes because he will explain how to activate the T-Rex waiting around the bend. Don’t worry, though; you’ll make it out alive if you just play dead. Lastly, don’t forget to partake in a glass of wine on your way out, if you’re not driving, of course.

The Trick Art Exhibit is both fun and exciting, filled with magical illusions and sets that are sure to boggle your brain. Give yourself a break from reality and take the drive to Itoman to enjoy this well executed and captivating display.
