The Earliest to Bloom in Japan

6th Sunflower Festival in Kitanakagusuku

In addition to being the place to see the earliest cherry blossoms in Japan, Okinawa is also where you can enjoy sunflowers, normally a summertime phenomenon, during the island’s early spring.

A picturesque field measuring more than 10,000 square meters and ablaze with some 400,000 sunflowers has become a popular destination for taking pictures and for simply enjoying the splendor of the floral display.

The field, filled with a countless number of sunflowers, is a sight worth seeing, making for a unique winter memory with a splash of summer.

On Saturday and Sunday during the event, there will be various concessions featuring garden-fresh vegetables and products directly from local farms. Interactive attractions, such as feeding a young goat, are another highlight of the event.

Shuttle bus service is available every 15 minutes from the Kitanakagusuku Village Office.
