Keeping his legacy and music alive! Notorious B.I.G Tribute Tour

Christopher Wallace, also known as The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie and Biggie Smalls, was a Brooklyn rapper that rose to fame in the mid-1990s. With help from Sean “Puffy” Combs and the newly formed Bad Boy record label, Biggie brought respect back to the East Coast rap game.

In 1994, West Coast rapper, Tupac Shakur, was shot five times after an attempted robbery. Tupac accused his friends, Puffy and Biggie, of being involved, thus starting the feud between the East and West Coast rap. In 1996, just prior to the release of his second album, Life After Death, Biggie was arrested, prompting an 18-month hiatus in his recordings. In September of the same year, Tupac was violently slain in the lobby of a Las Vegas hotel. There was speculation as to Biggie’s involvement, with nothing concrete ever arising from it. Months after the Tupac’s death, while promoting his Life After Death album in Los Angeles, Biggie was brutally gunned down while waiting at a traffic light. His homicide is still an open investigation with many conspiracies floating around as to who killed the hip-hop icon. In 2009, the biopic, Notorious, was released. The film depicts the life and death of Biggie. Jamal “MC Gravy” Woolard was cast to play the role of Biggie.
Like Biggie, Woolard is a native Brooklyn rapper. Focused and dedicated, Woolard is a hard worker who took the role seriously. In 2006, Woolard was shot in the buttocks while on the way to an interview. He refused to be treated until he finished his interview, stating, “I was here to do my job, so I did my job.” For Woolard, playing the role of one of his heroes was an honor and privilege. He continues to work as an actor, comedian and rapper, and keeps Biggie alive with tours like the upcoming Notorious Tour here in Japan.
