Cafés Ao-Moana Array

Do you like nature, the ocean, arts, surfing, relaxing breaks with Hawaiian coffee and healthy acai bowls? Come and check out Ao-Moana today!

A fresh new face at Depot Island in Mihama, Ao-Moana is a café, gallery and specialty shop with everything Hawaiian, including arts and crafts, gifts, sundries and much more. This is one of the few places in Okinawa where you can sample Hawaii’s popular acai bowls topped with granola and sliced banana. With the open-air terrace seating, Ao-Moana is a perfect spot for a relaxing break with flavorful and aromatic Hawaiian coffee accompanied by the gentle sea breeze. The place also offers a good stock of surfboards, including popular lines by Cole and other big brand names that are highly favored by pro surfers, and beautiful oceanscape photos taken by Josh Lacar, Pete Leong and other locally noted photographers.

Josh Lacar
A surf photographer originally from the U.S., Josh sustained an injury in 2004 that temporarily sidelined him from surfing. This is when he thought to himself that surfers might appreciate photos of themselves, so he purchased his first DSLR camera and started taking pictures of local surfers in Okinawa. His interest and passion for photography grew stronger by the year, and in 2009 Josh began studying at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, majoring in photography. Even after earning his associate of arts degree, he is still very enthusiastic about learning new techniques and skills. Josh is excited to have the opportunity to showcase and share his passion and love for the art of photography at Ao-Moana.
