Izakaya, Live music / Entertainment, Restaurants Dining & awamori bar Uraniwa うら庭

Uraniwa, which means “backyard” in Japanese, is an exotic Asian restaurant located in Onna Village, one of the leading resort areas on the west coast of Okinawa Island. As the word “backyard” connotes, the place is hidden behind a building on Route 58, making it a quiet dining spot away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Dining at Uraniwa gives visitors a sense of time spent at a luxurious Asian resort. As you pass through the entryway, you will be impressed by the restaurant’s spaciousness and tropical resort atmosphere, which is enhanced by tasteful lighting and Balinese stone statues. The restaurant, with seating for about 200, is always full since it attracts tourists and locals alike.

At Uraniwa, you can enjoy great Okinawan food and live performances. Its novel cuisine uniquely integrates Okinawan and other culinary styles using plenty of fresh, local ingredients. An Okinawan fruit bowl is their specialty. Assorted appetizers using Okinawan delicacies in season are available at 1,575 yen. Only 10 servings of another specialty, the juicy, tender Ishigaki beefsteak with original Japanese sauce (1,890 yen), are prepared per day.

Left: Enjoy this delicious dinner and awamori along with the beautiful sound of sanshin. Join the kachaashii, a traditional Okinawan dance, at the end of the performance for a cultural experience you will never forget. Performance is free of charge.
Right: You can choose fresh fish from the showcase and they will cook it any way you like.

The music performances are also excellent. Live performances of sanshin, an Okinawan three-stringed instrument, take place Monday through Wednesday. A live show of djembe, or African drums, is held on Friday, with acoustic guitar on Saturday and Sunday. Please note these are subject to change.
